Indigenous Youth Services Evaluation

Picture
This evaluation was created by Indigenous youth to hold organizations and institutions that serve Indigenous youth accountable and turn competency training into action.

This evaluation comes from years of calls to action and recommendations by Indigenous youth and their allies, such as the Roadmap on TRC Call to Action 66 (IYV), the Learning Community on Reconciliation Report (Children’s Welfare League of Canada), and the Mapping Indigenous Youth Services Report (Assembly of Seven Generations). Many of these reports were led and driven by Indigenous youth themselves, demonstrating the real commitments to implement Indigenous people carry. The numerous

The Purpose
The Indigenous Youth Services Evaluation will be used as an accountability mechanism to guide Indigenous youth to provide feedback on youth-serving organizations. Youth-serving organizations’ feedback will be on areas to improve in having relationships with Indigenous communities, and how to address gaps in services. The Evaluation will be used to gage how well an organization, company or service provider meets the needs of Indigenous youth ethically and authentically.

Young Men's Support Circle

Picture
We are currently taking a break from the Young Men's Sharing Circle.

We are hosting a our young men’s support circle on Tuesday's from 6-8pm EST on Zoom. Please DM or email us for link to attend ([email protected]). This space is for young men, male identifying & gender diverse folks. We are keeping things open as possible. There is no commitment, just come by and see if it’s a space for you.

This will be a space hosted by A7G helpers and supporters. Our team spent three weeks training in mental health and trauma and we will continue with trainings as the year goes by.

We want to create a space (virtually for now) for folks to come together to learn and share about healthy coping, communication, masculinity and community building. We will be including ceremony, land based learning and will have supports and training.

Over the years, young people have shared their stories of feeling disconnected, feeling alone and lacking support. The reason for this circle is due to the passing of a young man in our community in the winter of 2020 who was in need of a support circle and community. His story among others stories like his is why we think it’s important to create this space.

We do not have any committed funds for this space but it is a need from community and about life promotion. If you are interested in participating or supporting us as we get started please reach out!

Covid Community Care

Picture
With a lot of myths and misinformation about the vaccines spreading, we hope to use this space to provide our communities with reliable information so that they can make the best decisions for themselves and their communities when deciding to take the vaccine or not.

We will be using this website to share the perspectives of Indigenous youth, as well as Indigenous healthcare workers. We have partnered with several Indigenous youth organizations/groups, to create three videos each answering a different question about vaccines. In addition, we will be hosting two webinars featuring Indigenous health-care workers, one that will de-bunk Covid-19 myths, and the other will be a conversation about informed decision making. On this website and on our Instagram page, we will also be creating and showcasing infographics and sharables. All of this content will be released Summer 2021.
